It's the day after the day after election day. Do you know who won?

The whole world awaits the recount in Florida to see whether George W. Bush or Al Gore won the presidential election. Be glad the gap between the two turns on Florida's 25 electoral votes and not New Mexico's five. Thanks to the incompetence of the Bernalillo County Clerk's Office, New Mexico doesn't know for sure whether Gore won the Land of Enchantment, or whether there are enough Bush votes in some 67,000 early and absentee votes not yet counted to put the Texas governor over the top here.

Why aren't they counted? Because the computer program linked to the ballot scanning devices wasn't counting certain ballots properly a mistake that went undetected until the count started going haywire election night. …
