Sen.: Hospital Talks Yield Some Progress.

While state Sen. Joe Carraro says negotiations to bring a full-service hospital to the West Side are under way, a hospital official cautioned they are still in the preliminary stages.

Carraro, R-Albuquerque, met with hospital officials last week to discuss what can be done to upgrade West Side hospital services.

Carraro has been an outspoken critic of the area's lack of health care and hospital services.

Last year, St. Joseph West Mesa Hospital closed its surgical medical unit. It still operates an emergency room.

Earlier this year, Presbyterian Health Care services closed a one-physician urgent-care center in Rio Rancho but opened another one in the Ladera area, a Presbyterian spokeswoman said Monday.

There are two Presbyterian facilities in Rio Rancho, one on Southern Boulevard and another on High Resort Boulevard, Presbyterian spokeswoman Michelle Campbell said. …
