Treasurer, clerk positions go to James Truscio and Victoria Dunlap

For the first time in almost 30 years Sandoval County voters gave Republicans two key county offices electing James Truscio as treasurer and Victoria Dunlap as clerk, unofficial results show.

Democrat Dale Prairie lost to Truscio in an extremely close race for current Treasurer Josephine Montoya's position. Truscio garnered 51.3 percent of the votes to Prairie's 48.7.

Montoya's term is up and she cannot run again. She defeated Truscio in 1996.

Clerk race

Dunlap defeated Democrat Eileen "Moreno" Garbagni, now deputy county clerk.

Clerk Sally Padilla did not run for re-election because of term limits.

Late Tuesday night, Garbagni had held a slight lead but when the ballots were tallied Wednesday, Dunlap had 50.3 percent to Garbagni's 48.7 percent.

Garbagni, a Bernalillo resident, said she wasn't going to challenge the election after going over the results with county elections director Eddie Gutierrez. …
