Sheriff's Office Gains 19 New Vehicles.

Rural law-enforcement agencies often encounter problems when it comes to getting equipment and personnel.

Tight budgets make it hard to pay qualified officers, and there never seems to be enough money to buy equipment.

But Torrance County Sheriff Pete Golden said his department has been making strides in both areas. In the past two years he has more than tripled the number of deputies, from seven to 23, and has gotten those deputies the equipment they need, especially vehicles.

The department recently received 19 new vehicles, including eight Ford Crown Victoria sedans and 11 Ford Expedition sport-utility vehicles. …
