Rio Communities Moves Slowly Toward Incorporation Vote.

The Valencia County Commission this week tabled setting an election on whether Rio Communities should incorporate, saying it wants to make sure all legal requirements have been met.

Supporters of incorporation want to put the question before Rio Communities voters by July.

The city of Belen last month gave its blessing to the incorporation effort, needed because the proposed new city is within five miles of Belen's city limits. The community of about 6,000 is just east of the river, across from Belen.

On Monday, Cyndi Sluder, who heads the incorporation committee, presented petitions to the County Commission containing the names of at least 200 registered voters and a census showing there's at least one person per acre of land, conditions also required by state law. …
