Tree-Cut Permits Go on Sale Nov. 16.

Sharpen up those axes and saws and save yourself a chunk o' change.

The U.S. Forest Service announced that permits to cut Christmas trees on national forests go on sale Nov. 16. Only over-the-counter sales are available this year; the Forest Service has done away with the sale-by-mail program.

"Many individuals have expressed an interest in purchasing permits directly rather than through a sale-by-mail program," said Forest Service spokeswoman Karen Carter.

A permit costs $10, limit one per household. Four additional permits may be purchased for family or friends, provided their names and addresses are made available. …
