* Cliff Fragua will create New Mexico's second statue for the U.S. Capitol

Sculptor Cliff Fragua's rendition of Pope, the legendary Pueblo Indian leader who fomented unrest against colonial Spanish dominion, was selected Wednesday to represent New Mexico in National Statuary Hall at the U.S. Capitol.

The commission, headed by Gov. Gary Johnson and Herman Agoyo of San Juan Pueblo, met several hours Wednesday afternoon before announcing its selection around 4 p.m. through the state Office of Cultural Affairs.

"I feel honored that I've been selected to do the sculpture. I feel honored I'm able to represent the people of New Mexico, that this sculpture will represent the people of New Mexico," said Fragua, 45, of Jemez Pueblo. …
