Rocky Is Consistent, But Should the Refs Be?(Sports)

Give Rocky Long credit. If his University of New Mexico football team were as consistent as he is, the Lobos would be 10-0 right now instead of 5-5.

The issue in question? Officiating.

A month ago, after a 17-14 loss at Colorado State, Long angrily criticized a crucial pass-interference call that went against the Lobos.

"That was the cheapest call I've seen in a long time," he said after

the game. "I think in a close game like that, officials should let players decide games."

Then, Tuesday, at the weekly UNM media luncheon, Long said game films showed Lobos wide receiver Rob Caston had been held by a San Diego State defender clearly, though not blatantly on the next-to-last play in a 17-16 UNM defeat Saturday night. …
