Campaign Cited Rebuke of Former U.S. Attorney Kelly

A federal judge said Tuesday that he was embarrassed that his name was used in political ads in the 1st Congressional District race.

Chief U.S. District Judge James A. Parker was asked about the ads at a luncheon of the Albuquerque Bar Association. The ads made reference to his rebuke of former U.S. Attorney John J. Kelly for his part in prosecuting Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist Wen Ho Lee.

Kelly, a Democrat, ran against Republican incumbent Heather Wilson. The ads ran on television, radio and were mailed to the public, said Enrique Knell, a spokesman for the Wilson campaign. …
