Some Races Too Close To Call

STATE LEGISLATURE

Incumbent legislators appeared to have held onto their seats in the West Side and North Valley on Tuesday, according to incomplete results.

However, some races were tight with absentee and early votes still to be counted.

Republican Sen. Joe Carraro was handily returned to office in District 23, having defeated Libertarian candidate Ronald E. Bjornstad of Rio Rancho with 81 percent of the vote. Carraro has held the seat since 1993, and had also served in the position during the 1980s.

Carraro, who will turn 56 on Sunday, said he was comfortable with his victory, and now wants to form a coalition of Republicans and like-minded Democrats who will remove House Speaker Raymond Sanchez and Senate Pro-Tem Manny Aragon from their positions of power. …
