Grear Bolstering Lobos at Off-Guard.(Sports)

When the University of New Mexico women's basketball team started practice a few weeks ago, coach Don Flanagan wondered who would play the 3-guard and how much productivity he might get out of that position.

Now after two exhibition games, Flanagan feels like he's getting two for the price of one at that spot.

Chelsea Grear, a 5-foot, 10-inch sophomore from Stafford, Texas, has been the starter and has shown she worked a lot on her shot in the offseason. Her backup has been 5-11 freshman Lauren McLeod of Waco, Texas, a late signee who has been a pleasant surprise.

Grear was the starter at the end of last season, but that was more a case of senior Sonya Bryant a three-year starter slumping than Grear grabbing the position. …
