Winterlike Storm To Hit State Today

Voters heading to the polls in parts of New Mexico today might want to grab a heavy coat and switch to four-wheel drive.

Up to 6 inches of snow are forecast for the Gila Mountains, and the eastern slopes of the Sandias, Manzanos and Sangre de Cristos also could be hit hard.

"It will be quite chilly," National Weather Service forecaster Chuck Maxwell said.

The weather service posted a winter storm watch for Election Day in northern and central New Mexico.

Voters might have to contend with winterlike weather as they cast ballots for president, Congress and a number of state and local races and other ballot items. …
