Change of Address

SMILING FACES CHILDCARE has moved to larger quarters at 2445 Chelwood Park NE, north of Menaul. The new center has a 2,000-square-foot fenced playground with a redwood play system. Julie Baca is owner and director; Monica Sierra is assistant director.

The new center's capacity is 44 children age 2 and over, plus before- and after school programs. The caregiver-to-child ratio is 1-8 for 2-year-olds and 1-10 for children 3 and older. Weekly rates start at $95 for full-time care.

THE BERNALILLO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE recently announced its annual community awards.

New business of the year went to John Sadler's Bernalillo Clock Shop. Michael Martino's Chiropractic Services was named the business making the greatest contribution, for his help to Bernalillo High School students. Board member Sophia DiClemente was chosen individual contributing the most to improve the business climate for her part in bringing events like the Casper Baca Rough Stock Rodeo to town and raising funds for the new youth center. Employee of the year went to Bernalillo Police Chief William "Frenchy" Relyea. Janice Fowler of Noteworthy Secretarial Services in Placitas was named most outstanding chamber volunteer. Chuck Fleming, executive director of La Buena Vida, accepted the award for the company making a difference in the community for its substance-abuse and mental health work.

Community focus awards went to Felix Silva of Silva's Saloon, Fawn Dolan of Camino Real Antiques and other businesses, and Antoinette Silva of Rose's Pottery House.

LA VIDA LLENA, a retirement community at 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, was a winner in four categories at the 2000 Mature Market Resource Center national competition. …
