* Israeli ambassador helps open facility where Jews and non-Jews can "sit together like brothers"

Albuquerque's new Jewish Community Center has "opened the doors of the future" for generations to come, said David Ivry, Israeli ambassador to the United States.

The city's Jews realized a dream come true with Sunday's dedication of the Ronald Gardenswartz Jewish Community Center, Ivry said in his keynote address. About 400 people listened in the gymnasium while an overflow crowd viewed the ceremonies on a big screen in the auditorium.

"This campus is a unique place for the Jewish community where young and old can come together as one," the ambassador said.

But most importantly, he said, the center will bring together all the faith's divisions as well as nonpracticing Jews and non-Jews "to sit together like brothers. …
