Scorpions Shut Down Jackalopes' Power Play Squad, Score With Their Own.(Sports)

The New Mexico Scorpions turned the tables on the Western Professional Hockey League's top power play unit Saturday, shutting down the Odessa special teams while picking up a pair of scores with the man advantage to regain the winning track.

The team's six-game, season-opening winning streak was derailed Friday by Amarillo, but the Scorpions hit the right switch against the Jackalopes with a strong 3-2 effort in front of 4,217 at Tingley Coliseum.

New Mexico goaltender Steve DeBus turned away 28 shots, with sprawling saves and quick kickaways.

The penalty-killing unit smothered the Jackalopes' power play, blanking them in five attempts. …
