Polls Gauge DA, 1st District Support

The presidential contest between George W. Bush and Al Gore remained too close to call in New Mexico just days before the national vote Tuesday, a Journal poll found.

Bush, the Republican governor of Texas, had a three-point lead over the Democratic vice president among the New Mexico voters polled Oct. 30-Nov. 2. However, that lead was within the poll's statistical margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

"This is a very close race," said Brian Sanderoff, president of Research and Polling Inc., which conducted the poll. …
