EHS Ends Dream Of An Unbeaten Season

SANTA ANA PUEBLO Some 37 years ago, Bob Dylan first sang these words: "The answer is blowing in the wind."

For the Sandia Matadors boys soccer team, the question was whether it would finish the season undefeated with a No. 1 national ranking and the inaugural Class AAAAA title in hand. Friday afternoon, the answer came blowing hard from the north.

It was "no."

Eldorado held off a furious comeback attempt to hand the Matadors their only loss of the season, 1-0, and advance into today's finals.

The Eagles weathered the harsh wind and Sandia's high-powered offense in the first half, then scored on a penalty kick by junior forward Cary Dougherty 48 minutes into the match. …
