Two candidates are vying to become the next Santa Fe County Magistrate Court judge in the seat left vacant after embattled former Judge Angie Vigil Perez resigned earlier this year.

Democrat George Anaya Jr., a former two-term magistrate court judge, is counting on his experience to get elected to the bench in predominantly Democratic Santa Fe County.

Republican newcomer Carmen Quintana is running on a theme of rehabilitating young criminals, instead of locking them up in private prisons paid with taxpayer money.
