That's how many times the Bengals have won a high school boys state cross-country title. That includes 12 straight championships from 1983-94 and last year's Class AAAA crown.

The Bengals run for their 14th state title today in the new Class AAAAA on their home course at Red Rock State Park.

"Gallup is amazingly good," says Eldorado coach Chip Smith. "I know they've been nationally ranked and deservedly so."

Despite the disciplinary suspensions of two of their varsity runners including senior Irwin Touchine, who was fifth at state in 1999 the Bengals are favored again. …
