While airwaves and mailboxes were glutted with political discourse, New Mexico State University's restrictions on pamphleteering made it stick out like a teetotaler at a beer bust.

Up until Oct. 27, students faced prior restraint on distributing literature anywhere outside of three designated areas on campus where the First Amendment apparently remains in force.

Graduate student Sean Rudolph was arrested in September for violating that policy but it was NMSU that got busted in the ensuing constitutional challenge to the rules. …
