District 25 Hopefuls Offer Change, Experience.

Green Party candidate Ann Tyner Gleason is promising to bring a new "menu of ideas" to the state Senate if she is chosen Tuesday over incumbent Sen. Roman Maes III, D-Santa Fe, a real estate broker with a decidedly pro-business outlook.

"I think it's a good idea to get different points of view, different life experiences and to make (the Senate) more representative," said Gleason, 60, a Santa Fe lawyer who has specialized in immigration, real estate and domestic relations cases.

Gleason advocates term limits in the Legislature, lengthening the academic year in public schools, publicly funded buses or commuter trains, restrictions on golf course construction to save water and salary bonuses for bilingual state employees.

In the Nov. 7 general election, she is challenging a state senator with 16 years of experience. …
