Equipment Recovered After Police Stake Out Vehicle

Two boys, ages 14 and 13, allegedly stole an undercover vehicle from the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Albuquerque on Tuesday.

The early 1990s white Jeep Cherokee was later recovered by the Albuquerque Police Department.

Items in the Jeep, such as raid gear, bulletproof vests, communications devices and 1,000 rounds of ammunition, were missing but were later found elsewhere after the juveniles were questioned, said Charles Kirk, head of the local INS office.

Kirk said some of the equipment included a radio that enables INS officers in New Mexico to communicate with other INS agents in Colorado and El Paso. …
