Her story is one of starting at the bottom and working her way up. Because of the experience and knowledge she gained along the way and the work ethic she has displayed, the Journal endorses Mary Herrera for county clerk.

Herrera has worked for Bernalillo County for 26 years, starting as a clerk typist after graduating from West Mesa High School. She attended Technical Vocational Institute part time and earned a promotion to bookkeeper. A bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico and a master's degree from the College of Santa Fe in business administration further helped her rise in the ranks, eventually to the post of assistant comptroller and accounting supervisor. …
