Art Goes Public With Sculptures at 2 Community Centers.

Two treasures worth a combined $85,000 are adding some sparkle to East Mountains community centers.

Both are works of art commissioned by the Bernalillo County One Percent for Public Art Board, a public arts program established in 1992. Volunteers on the art board are appointed by county commissioners, said board chairwoman Janey Brink.

"One percent of the money for public projects is set aside for art," Brink said.

On Oct. 26, artists, county officials and children gathered at Los Vecinos Community Center west of Tijeras and at Vista Grande Community Center in Sandia Park to celebrate the unveiling of the new art pieces. …
