Humane Society Emphasizes Better Training, Procedures

A report on virtually every aspect of animal shelters was sent to the city this week by the Humane Society of the United States, which in May found inadequate medical care and "alarming" euthanasia practices at Albuquerque's two pounds.

The final report by the society follows one released in July that detailed incidents of sick animals not getting care, cats being strangled with control poles, and incomplete euthanasia on seven animals.

The city since then has made personnel and policy changes in response to the report, including releasing its veterinarian. …
