Running Game Shows Progress

No offense to University of New Mexico defensive coordinator Bronco Mendenhall, but the reason the Lobos football team has turned around its season has been its ability to move the ball.

The defense has been solid the entire season, but that did not prevent UNM from starting 0-3 and coming dangerously close to starting 0-4.

The Lobos have improved running the football in four of their last five games, which has led to four wins in their last five games. The lone game among the last five that UNM failed to run for 100 yards was its 17-14 loss to Colorado State.

Senior fullback Ted Iacenda, one of six Lobos to establish career highs in rushing yards during the past five games, knows which five guys to thank. …
