Hot Club of Cowtown doesn't have to compromise on music.(Music)

On its current tour, The Hot Club of Cowtown is playing several bars and taverns, a few coffeehouses and a couple of theaters, including the recently restored KiMo Theatre.

But guitarist/vocalist Whit Smith said in recent phone interview that the three-piece western swing band doesn't vary its sets much according to its surroundings.

"We don't really approach anything differently," he said. "We play like we do for any audience. We can play festivals, rodeos, bar mitzvahs. We always play what we want to play. We're fortunate that we get to play what we want and don't have to compromise."

That uncompromising attitude is what makes The Hot Club of Cowtown what it is a trio that plays Americana music that echoes the jazz stylings of Louis Armstrong, the country-western sound of Bob Wills and the guitar-driven jazz of Django Reinhardt. …
