Lesbian speakers bring tour to Pulse.(Stage)

The words "spoken word" and "nightclub" may seem a bit like oil and water to the casual reader.

But on a tour like the "Wasted Motel Tour," you can expect to hear provocative prose and plenty of hooting and hollering from five defiantly gay females.

The five women making up the 33-date tour, which started Oct. 1 in Sacramento, all are veterans of the road, having put in varying amounts of time touring on their own or as part of San Francisco's infamous Sister Spit tours.

Michelle Tea, who co-founded Sister Spit, is the most renowned of the five women. Tea received the 1999 Rona Jaffe Award as a promising female writer at the beginning of her career for her first novel "The Passionate Mistakes and Intricate Corruption of One Girl in America. …
