Hispanics Courted At Las Cruces Stop

LAS CRUCES With five days left before Tuesday's election, Vice President Al Gore repeated his home-stretch message every vote counts to a shivering crowd of about 6,000 at a high school sports stadium here Thursday.

Saying the election is the closest in the past 40 years, the Democratic Party presidential nominee shouted: "New Mexico has the future of the United States in your hands. I need your help."

The crowd, many of whom had waited for three hours for the vice president to arrive, stayed in high spirits with the music of Tex-Mex band Little Joe y La Familia and rallying speeches by actors Jimmy Smits and Esai Morales and rock music legend Carlos Santana. …
