Brothers Ready To Face Off Across Scrimmage Line in Big Game.

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall in the Corrales home of the Philipbars this week not just for what was being said but also for what wasn't being said.

Talking trash? Yes.

Talking strategy? No.

School pride? Sure.

Opponent bashing? No way.

Makes sense this is the season for political correctness.

But for Brad and Brian Philipbar, a week of civility is about to be thrown aside, and with pleasure. Tonight at 7, New Mexico witnesses one of the stranger variations of the sibling rivalry when Brad's Cibola Cougars visit Brian's Rio Rancho Rams in high school football.

"It's the biggest game I'll play in my high school career," said Brian Philipbar, the Rams' rifle-armed 6-foot-4-inch senior quarterback. "Our stadium will be packed."

Beyond the ever-present territorial bragging-rights angle, there is great importance to this game. It pits the co-leaders in District 1AAAAA. Both teams are 3-0 in league, and Cibola can clinch the district championship with a victory before what is expected to be a crowd of 4,000 and maybe more fans. …
