Basic Cell Builds Fascinating Body of Work.(Arts)

* Artist says people physically estranged from the biology that makes them real

There is a vast poem teeming inside of us. It's composed of microscopic animated bodies outfitted and equipped with the plasma, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria and other biological machinery that is the basic cell.

"The cellular activity inside of us is very poetic," Albuquerque artist Catherine Wallers said.

But Wallers wonders how much people know about the inner workings of their own bodies. It's a question that inspired her to do an exhibit focusing on this smallest building block.

"I am fascinated by how estranged we are in the phenomenon going on inside our own bodies," Wallers said. …
