* Revelations few and far between amid hyperbole gone insane

It's always been a mystery to me why movie stars are forever bemoaning their lack of privacy. Isn't that part of the deal? I mean, can you get the million-dollar home in Tesuque without anyone being interested in how you decorate the place? Cintra Wilson rants with a similar lack of logic in her new collection of essays, "A Massive Swelling: Celebrity Re-examined as a Grotesque, Crippling Disease and Other Cultural Revelations." Wilson abhors the "sickness" that is celebrity while simultaneously pitching her own literary claim to the mantle.

Wilson is familiar to San Francisco residents (and later to readers of the online magazine, Salon), as the author of a weekly column titled "Cintra Wilson Feels Your Pain," wherein she counseled emotionally overwrought readers about topics she knew nothing about in a style that can only be described as hyperbole gone insane. …
