Panel Wants Highlands Recredited.

LAS VEGAS, N.M. A national evaluation team has recommended that New Mexico Highlands University be reaccredited.

A seven-member panel from North Central Accrediting made the recommendation after three days of visiting the northern New Mexico school and interviewing regents, faculty and students.

The recommendation covers the main campus as well as learning centers in Farmington, Espanola, Santa Fe and Rio Rancho.

However, the recommendation is only a preliminary step in the process. The school will be reaccredited when the organization issues an official announcement next spring.

The organization evaluates schools on several criteria, including the school's ability to accomplish and strengthen its educational goals. …
