DPS Talks Could Raise Conflict of Interest.

* Councilor said he would not "be in the loop at all"

Councilor Michael Williams could have a conflict of interest if he gets involved in labor negotiations between the city and the Department of Public Safety Association, officials said Friday.

Williams, who this year was elected to the City Council, is a Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputy and president of the New Mexico Coalition of Public Safety Officers Communication Workers of America Local 7911.

DPS Association members on Sept. 1 voted to hire the CWA to represent them in negotiations and in legal matters with the city six months after Williams' election to the City Council.

"I feel very uncomfortable with this whole situation," Councilor Felicie Truscio said. …
