Cox Defends Report at Redmond Fund-Raiser.

LOS ALAMOS U.S. Rep. Christopher Cox defended the congressional report on Chinese espionage that bears his name at a fund-raiser Friday for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bill Redmond.

Cox, R-Calif., also placed the blame for the Wen Ho Lee case and the overwhelming criticism that followed squarely on Energy Secretary Bill Richardson and the U.S. Justice Department.

"I first heard the name Wen Ho Lee when Energy Secretary Bill Richardson publicly fired him," Cox said. "Bill told me he did this to make an example of Dr. Lee. I replied that he might be setting a bad example."

Richardson couldn't be reached for comment late Friday. …
