Workers Face Discipline For Losing Hard Drives

A half-dozen employees at Los Alamos National Laboratory top executives down to rank-and-file weapons scientists face proposed punishment over the monthlong disappearance of two computer hard drives of nuclear-weapons secrets.

The University of California, manager of the weapons lab, announced that it had recommended the discipline largely because of LANL's failure to immediately report the missing hard drives to the U.S. Department of Energy, the agency that oversees the lab and is legally responsible for its secrets.

The university and the lab cited worker privacy in declining to name those potentially subject to punishment. …
