SANTA FE A half-dozen employees at Los Alamos National Laboratory top executives down to rank-and-file weapons scientists face the prospect of punishment over the monthlong disappearance of two computer hard drives of nuclear-weapons secrets.

The University of California, manager of the weapons lab, announced that it had recommended the discipline largely because of LANL's failure to immediately report the missing hard drives to the U.S. Department of Energy, the agency that oversees the lab and is legally responsible for its secrets. …
