State Presbyterians Vote For Full Partnership in Church

The governing body of the Presbyterian Church in New Mexico voted unanimously Friday to affirm "the full partnership" of women and men in church ministry.

The 220 voting members of the state's two presbyteries were united on women serving the church in every capacity. It was a response to a Southern Baptist position taken earlier this year.

At their annual national convention in Florida, Southern Baptists voted overwhelmingly in favor of what they say is a Bible-based decision: Women should no longer serve as pastors.

The Santa Fe and Sierra Blanca presbyteries issued a pastoral letter to reaffirm their position on equality of women in ministry. …
