Next Generation Gets DOE Grant.(Business)

The Department of Energy has issued a $150,000 grant to a central New Mexico economic development initiative seeking to attract better paying jobs to the region, the president of that group announced this week.

The money for the Next Generation Economic Initiative will be used to open an office and seed some studies, said Dan Hartley, Next Generation's president and a former executive with Sandia National Laboratories.

Next Generation was started in December by the City of Albuquerque with a $350,000 DOE grant. Members of Albuquerque's business and education communities and local governments sit on the group's board of directors. …
