A: While most trees and shrubs should be planted in the fall, it is best to wait until spring to plant fruit trees.

They are generally sold bare root at nurseries and home stores. If you get there just after the trees are delivered it doesn't matter where you buy them, but generally established nurseries will have the best quality trees after they have been in stock for a while. …
