Tree Can Easily Become Firewood.(Community)

Q. We've decided to cut down an ash tree on our property. It was attacked by ash borers and just isn't doing well. Since we have a fireplace we want to keep the wood. Will keeping it pose a threat to any other trees around us?

A.There is a good chance the borers could continue their pupation and emerge as adults next year, even in the cut wood.

As far as keeping the downed tree to use as firewood, there are several things you should do. As a matter of fact, I would do this with any firewood.

First, if it's not already, cut the wood into manageable pieces. Second, stack it on pallets so as to discourage any other pests or critters from nesting in the wood pile. …
