City May Receive Drainage Funding.

Rio Rancho soon will be asking the local flood control authority for $50,000 to help pay for a drainage study and the purchase of property to install channels in problem areas.

During a meeting Wednesday, city councilors approved a proposal by Public Works Director Ken Curtis to apply for the money from the Southern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority.

Curtis last week told the flood authority he intends to apply for the money and received an unofficial nod of approval.

Curtis told city councilors that the flood authority has a local government drainage assistance program that could provide up to $50,000 for flood-control improvements as long as the city can afford to make a 50 percent match. …
