Artist Jim Vogel's use of warping perspectives and curvaceous frames in his paintings are small revolts against his former profession.

Until last year, Vogel, 36, was employed as a graphic designer for an advertising firm in Denver, Colo., and was limited to a weekly figure drawing class to explore his life-long interest in fine art. However, he slowly began to change that over the last few years scaling back his hours more and more to be able to paint. After a while, in fact, he resolved to quit his job all together, but wanted to first assemble enough paintings for an exhibition. …
