Judge Had Ordered Man Kept in Taos

TAOS A court order to keep the son of Taos County Sheriff Charlie Martinez in custody at the troubled County Detention Center was rescinded Thursday.

State District Judge Peggy Nelson reversed her decision of Sept. 18 and ordered Jeffrey Martinez, 24, a convicted felon, to be transferred to the Colfax County Jail in Raton pending an Oct. 23 hearing on revocation of his probation.

Jeffrey Martinez has been held in custody at the Taos County jail since his July 15 arrest for allegedly violating probation, contrary to a county policy of transporting all felony prisoners to other lock-ups outside Taos County as the county prepares to close its jail. …
