Break-In Signals Not Reaching Firm

The latest in a series of four break-ins resulting in thousands of dollars in damage at Santa Fe High School has school district officials questioning the effectiveness of its alarm system and highlighted concerns raised by the company that monitors it.

Delores C. Carrion, owner of Alarm Systems Monitoring, said a signal from the security system the company monitors didn't reach her office Wednesday night when vandals with large rocks ransacked a principal's office and portions of five buildings.

"I can only respond to what I get," she said.

In at least two of the incidents, alarms were found to be on afterward but the company hadn't been alerted.

Wednesday's crime is believed to have occurred after a school-related group left the south campus at 8 p.m. The east campus and the south campus, where the worst vandalism occurred, suffered about $10,000 to $15,000 worth of damage, according to Associate Superintendent Geri Romero-Roybal. …
