Abuse Treatment Grants Awarded.

WASHINGTON Two New Mexico correctional facilities have been awarded $425,221 by the Justice Department to continue substance abuse treatment programs, Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., said.

The funding, provided through the department's Residential Substance Abuse Treatment for State Prisoners program, was awarded to Central New Mexico Correctional Facility and the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility in Las Cruces.

The institutions include 70 treatment beds. A third therapeutic program is scheduled to open soon at a privately operated facility.

"This funding is important for the rehabilitation of drug-abusing offenders and will help contribute to their becoming productive citizens again," Domenici said. …
