Media celebrities put the pedal to the metal for benefit.

Sandia Motorsports Park is pitting representatives of local newspapers and television and radio stations against each other in its "Vibes vs. Scribes" Celebrity Challenge to benefit Children's Hospital of New Mexico.

The race, which is open to the public Saturday at 6 p.m., will put the men and women of the media in real racecars and turn them loose on the oval at the new motorsports park off Paseo del Volcan (Exit 149 from I-40).

Some of the newspaper racers will be Brian Fantl, Manuel Chavez, Randy Harrison and D'Val Westphal representing the Albuquerque Journal; Rose Demar and Jeffrey Buell of the Rio Rancho Observer; Larry Poe of the New Mexico Business Journal, and Scott Davis and Mark Randall of the New Mexico Business Weekly. …
