The Albuquerque school board was given a petition Sept. 20 from parents upset about travel for athletic events under a new alignment of school sports districts.

Steve Stucker, a parent from Eldorado High School, presented a petition with more than 1,350 signatures asking for help to change the New Mexico Activities Association district alignments.

The petition, which also was given to the NMAA last week, is an attempt by parents to reduce the more than 3,000 miles their children will travel to participate in sports this year, Stucker said.

Eldorado and Manzano high schools are in a district for athletics that includes Carlsbad, Hobbs and Clovis. …
