Mountainair is short on police officers again.

Officer Juan Ibarra resigned the first week of September and officer Ray Romero quit after a Town Council executive session on Sept. 19. The department is currently manned by certified police chief Willie Garley and new uncertified officer Evangel Maldonado.

Ibarra, who was on the force for eight months, would not comment on his reason for resigning. His only response was, "They've got problems."

At the regular Town Council meeting Tuesday, Ibarra asked whether he would receive his clothing allowance of $350 upon hiring and $25 per month as stated in town policy. …
