Judge: NMAA Violated Its Own Rules.

* But Moriarty must follow association's process for changing athletic districts

A state District Court judge ruled Monday that the New Mexico Activities Association violated some of its own policies when it reclassified and realigned high school athletic districts last year.

But Judge Neil Mertz stopped short of ordering the NMAA to go back and realign the districts. The current district alignment, which went into effect this school year, will stay in place until the end of the 2001-02 school year. According to NMAA bylaws, districts can only be changed every two years.

Mertz said the NMAA should look closely at the issues brought forth in the lawsuit that led to Monday's ruling. …
